Labour and birth are a major event and it can feel like a weighty responsibility to birth your baby safely. This workshop helps you to understand what is happening to your body and your baby during labour and birth. Women often know about contractions and the cervix dilating, but understanding the how and why can be helpful.
Learning about the physiology of your body, the important hormones involved, and your baby’s journey can aid progress and improve outcomes. The labour and birth workshop will cover the anatomy and physiology of labour and birth, how to promote a positive outcome and experience. We learn about alternating positions and how to work with your body’s rhythm and knowledge.
Recognising when labour has started and place of birth selected can have an impact on birth experience and outcomes. It is important to feel in control, safe, and understand options fully before making decisions. Sometimes plans and preferences change. Learning about all the different types of birth, routine assessments offered, causes for concern, and emergencies are all important to be aware of so you can feel in control during your birth.
Knowing the advantages and disadvantages of commonly used pain relief options will help you to make an informed decision during labour. You will also learn about the many tools you can use to make your labour and birth a positive experience, promote progress, and improve baby’s first hours of transition to this world.
Induction of labour is a common intervention offered for various reasons. Learn about the process, the risks, and why women are offered Induction of labour. For those who like evidence, statistics and facts, you will find this topic useful.
Perineal trauma is explained. The different grades of trauma, how they are repaired, and practices for preventing tearing.

You will receive a useful and comprehensive information pack to take home and refer back to. You will also be be provided with notebooks and pens to take your own notes during the class. Our support doesn’t stop after your class!. Once you attend any of our classes and workshops, you will always be welcomed to ask questions and visit us throughout pregnancy and beyond.
