Tongue Tie Services Liverpool: When the tongue separates from the floor of the mouth during your babies’ development in the womb, it remains connected by a piece of skin known as the lingual frenulum. For some babies who are described as having a tongue tie, this piece of tissue can cause restriction in the movement of the tongue.
Tongue ties can be thin whilst others can be thick and chunky. A tongue tie can extend all the way to the tip of the tongue, halfway up the tongue, or even further back at the base of the tongue. Some tongue ties are obvious to see, others are less obvious. Tongue ties do not always cause a problem, but some common problems can be feeding, weaning, oral hygiene and speech.
If a tongue tie is likely to cause difficulties for your baby, a procedure called Frenotomy can be performed. Not all babies require a frenotomy and there are other options. However, the first step is to diagnose and help you plan ahead with our expert team.
At Beyond Midwives we can see babies between the ages of birth to 6 months. Our experienced tongue tie practitioner in assessment and the procedure of frenotomy can advise if your baby would benefit from a such a procedure. Feeding support is offered post procedure to ensure effectiveness.
