About
this workshop
Feel Confident, Informed, and Ready for Birth
Labour and birth are life-changing experiences, and feeling prepared can make all the difference. This face-to-face, practical workshop is led by highly experienced midwives who are passionate about supporting you to feel calm, confident, and well-informed as you prepare to meet your baby.
Whether you’re planning a hospital or homebirth, this session takes you beyond the basics. You may have heard about contractions and dilation, but understanding how and why your body works the way it does can transform your experience.
When you understand what’s happening physiologically and emotionally, you’re better able to work with your body, not against it.
Through practical learning, real discussion, and evidence-based guidance, you’ll gain tools and insights to support a positive, empowered birth, whatever path your journey takes.
This workshop covers:
-
How labour begins and how your chosen place of birth can influence your experience
-
How to know if you’re in labour – recognising the signs and knowing when to call for support
-
What’s happening in your body – the anatomy and physiology of birth, including key hormones and the baby’s journey
-
Recognising your options – how to make informed decisions, even when plans change
-
Understanding interventions – including assisted births and what happens in an emergency
-
Induction of labour – what it involves, why it’s offered, and the risks and benefits
-
Encouraging labour – natural ways to support and stimulate progress
-
Pain relief options – medical and alternative approaches to managing discomfort
-
Positions for labour and birth – how to work with your body to support comfort and progress
-
Tools to support progress – get to physically handle tools to take with you and understand how to use them effectively
-
Perineal care – ways to reduce the risk of trauma, what to expect, and how tears are assessed and repaired
-
Recovery after birth – what to expect following a vaginal or caesarean birth and how to support healing
