New Baby Mini Course: Confident, Informed Parenting from Day One
Everything you need to care for your new baby in just two relaxed sessions!
Our New Baby Mini Course combines two essential, face-to-face workshops:
The New Baby and Breastfeeding Workshops are
delivered over two Saturday afternoons by expert midwives and infant feeding specialists.
Whether you’re a first-time parent or looking for a refresher, this course gives you the knowledge and practical skills to feel prepared, calm, and connected right from the start. You’ll leave feeling confident to care for your baby, respond to their cues, and make informed decisions about feeding, safety, and early development.
What you’ll learn over the two workshops
Part 1: Caring for your new baby
This practical, evidence-based workshop guides you through your baby’s transition after birth, what to expect in the early days, and how to recognise what’s normal (and what’s not).
Topics include:
-
What happens immediately after birth, including monitoring, and newborn checks
-
Understanding the first 24 hours – screening, referrals, wet and dirty nappies
-
The first 28 days – early development and routine postnatal care
-
Formula feeding and safe preparation, amounts, sterilisation, and feeding cues
-
Skin care, including nappy rash, cord care, eyes and mouth
-
Understanding and responding to colic, reflux, wind, crying and thrush
-
Tummy time and early bonding to support emotional development
- Skin to skin and how to do effectively and safely
-
Sleep safety and reducing risks and recognising hazards
-
When and how to seek advice or support
- Jaundice – what is it and what you can do
-
What to expect once you’re home – community midwife visits and further screening
-
The importance of vitamin K, newborn registration, and travelling with your baby
You’ll also learn how to spot early signs of illness, understand when to call for help, and how to support your baby’s ongoing development with confidence.
Please note: Breastfeeding is not covered in this session — it is explored in depth in Part 2.
Part 2: Breastfeeding workshop
Led by Carol, an IBCLC Lactation Consultant and Specialist Infant Feeding Midwife, alongside Alison, a trained tongue-tie expert, this interactive session focuses entirely on feeding with confidence.
Topics include:

What colostrum is, why it’s important, and how to harvest it from 37 weeks (Beyond Midwives equipment provided)
-
The benefits of breastfeeding for both parent and baby
-
The physiology of feeding – how hormones influence supply and infant development
-
Understanding baby’s natural feeding behaviours and cues
-
Effective positioning and attachment to prevent complications

Why choose Beyond Midwives?
Expert, real-world support that lasts
We go beyond the classroom. All sessions are delivered face-to-face in small, welcoming groups by highly experienced midwives, including an IBCLC lactation consultant
You’ll practise using real tools, explore honest discussion, and build confidence through real-life demonstrations, all in a space where you’re truly heard and supported!
What makes us unique?
We’re the only antenatal course who offer direct mobile access to the midwives.
That means if you have questions after the course, or want reassurance once your baby is here, we’re just a message or phone call away, for as long as you need us!
Because support shouldn’t stop when the session ends. It should grow with you.
Spaces are limited to keep the group intimate and personal. Book your place now and feel ready to welcome your baby with confidence.
